Primary Thesis and Annotated Bibliography

Primary Thesis : Men who are stay at home dad’s are discriminated against, seen as unmanly and develop low self esteem due to these stereotypes.

Coltrane, Scott.”Fathering : Paradoxes, Contradiction and Dilemmas. New York. From Men’s Lives edited by Michael S. Kimmel and Michael A. Messner, 8th edition .Ally & Bacon,2010.433-440.Print

I like this article because it shows us how society view men. The readings also show how men use to be portrayed traditionally in today’s society. The history of men and their relationship with their children is very interesting.

The reason why I choose this is because the studies show that “Today’s father is at least adept at changing diapers as changing tires” (Coltrane, 193). This goes with what im exacrtly trying to say in my paper which is stay at home dads should be viewed the same as stay at home moms.

Williams L, Chrisitine. “The Glass Escalator: Hidden Advantages for Men in the “Female” Professions. New York. From Men’s Lives edited by Michael S. Kimmel and Michael A. Messner, 8th edition .Ally & Bacon,2010.219-221.Print.

The reason why I choose this article because it is a good example of how stay at home dads or men with female occupations are discriminated and given negative stereotypes. It also shows how some men have doubts in working in certain jobs because of what society might see them as.

This applys to me research paper because it shows how men are discriminated and how men are viewed by society. This is goin to really help my paper because it backs up what i am saying.

Daddy Day Care. Dir Steve Carr. Perf. Eddie Murphy, Jeff Garlin.DVD.Columbia Pictures,2003.

Daddy Day Care is a great example of how men are getting laid off and having to be stay at home dads. Due to this they get some negative looks and its good with my research because we see how women and society might view these men .

This is going to help my researcg paper because the movie also shows how some people might rather suffer and be unhappy and work at a place they don’t want just because it gives them the look society expects from them.

Harry, William. “Sweden and the “New” Masculinity?” Blogspot. Blog posting. 15 June 2010. 10
November 2010 < http://masculineheart.blogspot.com/2010/06/sweden-and-new-
Masculinity.html>.
This Article benefits my paper because it showing you what might be the future of stay at home dads. Sweden is a great example of the benefits there is in men staying more at home with their children. This might the beginning of something new and Sweden might be the first of its kind. It also shows how Men and women are now being equal. At least at home.

This is perfect because it shows how a new kind of masculinity is evolving. Now men and women are ghaving the same rights at home and society shouldnt view these men as failures. Stay at home dads are the same as stay at home moms.

Perry, J. Mark. “The 2008 Male Recession? The Gender Jobs Gap”. Carpe Diem. BlogSpot.
5 Dec. 2008. 29 Nov. 2010 gender-jobs-gap.html>
This statistic helps me paper because I shows how many men are getting laid off and the difference with women.

  1. Both the Perry and Harry article's sound interesting but your annotations are incomplete and the documentations need work. Please review the assignment. For each source you need to compose a summary, which you already have, but you also need an assessment and reflection. The movie, Daddy Day Care (title of the movie must be italicized or underlined) may be an interesting additional source, but you need to demonstrate how it supports your thesis and fits with Perry and Harry's articles. Lastly, you simply copy and pasted the documentation information for Coltrane's and Williams' articles. It is your responsibility to format the information according to MLA format. Be sure to complete this assignment according to guidelines before I assign it points this weekend. Where is your proposal???
Why did you include Williams' article? Your paper is about fatherhood not about men in 'female' professions?
